Ione’s Rotary Club with the help of The Soroptimists, “S” Club students, were happy to server over two hundred and twenty of our favorite supporters once again. The first Saturday in October, the 3rd, Evalynn Bishop Hall’s walls were alive with the sounds of friends happily joining one another in discussion while awaiting the beginning of this annual feast. While smaller by half than the Crab Feed in February this event is much more low keyed, and intimate, it’s a formal round table dinner. All of the net proceeds from both of these events continue to go to local causes.

Recent speaker and former to the Ione Rotarian Arthur Peacock returned to speak on Senior Fitness and urged moderate and regular exercise to maintain health into your 80's.
Paired here with Ione Rotary President and local rancher, George Lambert, Arthur gave the club many humors anecdotes about life as a professional body builder as well as his recollections on the early days of the Ione Rotary. His only complaint about becoming 80 is that he has to compete against 60 and 70 year old now since there are no categories anyone his age!

His Mother Nancy who home schooled Jasper until he was ready for high school had this comment about her son; “We just wanted a child that we could bring up that was good at heart more than anything. Since we’ve been blessed with a bright child, more than anything we want him to make a difference in the world. He’s more than capable of doing that.”

The Rotary Club of Ione made a presentation of $5000 to the City Council of Ione to assist in obtaining a needed vehicle for the police department. The Rotary Club learned that many of the police department vehicles had excess years and high mileage and could possibly be problematic and have high maintenance costs. The Club was told by the Ione Police Department that the Jackson Rancheria & Casino had two vehicles they were possibly selling but a decision had been made by the Rancheria to donate a vehicle to the City of Ione as well as one to the City of Sutter Creek.

After two months of almost constant work a contingent of workers from Ione's service clubs and good Samaritans had nearly completed their tasks as the day of the event arrived. Four hundred and sixty seven tickets were sold and about four hundred and fifty hungry people were fed. This was called the best crab we had ever served by several very pleased patrons.

The arrival of the Norovirus to our area as well and colds and flu took a toll on some ticket holders. Some partners and spouses were able to take dinner’s home to their shut-ins but everyone else ate until they burst.
