Ione Service Clubs Continue the Tradition of Self Help
In the Ione tradition of volunteer effort to build and improve our public facilities The Rotary Club of Ione, Native Sons Parlor 33, Ione Business and Community Association, Masons, Picnic Association, and independent caterers joined forces to revive the facilities of Evalynn Bishop Hall. Located in Ione’s Howard Park the Hall, which hosts hundreds of events annually and is a disaster relief shelter, has needed its’ kitchen upgraded for the last several years. The service clubs and independent caterers, who use the facility for fund raising dinners, made a proposal to the City for the completion of the work during the winter of 2012-2013, which has been accepted. In all over $30,000 were raised for materials and new appliances with work commencing in early December. About two thirds of the work is complete but volunteers are still needed for painting and finish work. The groups hope to decorate the salon area with western memorabilia anyone wishing to donate such items please contact Larry Costick 274-2123 or the Ione City Hall 274-2412.
The service clubs that do this work are only able to complete these projects because of the generosity of the public who attend and support our fund raising efforts. The Dungeness Crab season is upon us again so please watch our local paper, TV and radio for up coming Crab feeds.
